what is christianity?

Jesus told the following story about a religious leader and someone on the edges of society:

Luke 18:9-14

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

It's not being religious that counts or being better than others! A Christian is someone who has realised that they need the forgiveness of a perfect God. That was the tax collector, not the religious leader!

A Christian understands that Jesus died to take the punishment of people who have rebelled against God. Christians know a relationship with God, a purpose and a peace in this life, and a future. Interested? ...if you are willing to admit and confess your sins and come to God for forgiveness. If you are willing to put your faith in Jesus, the Son of God, you can begin as a Christian today!

This prayer can help you start

Lord Jesus,

I'm sorry I've rebelled against you - in things I've thought, said and done. Help me to serve you above all else from today onwards. Thank you for dying and paying my punishment and then rising again. Give me the gift of eternal life. Help me to walk with you all days of my life.
